The ‘Heathrow Pod’ Ultra PRT system was launched in 2011. It carries passengers from business car parking to Terminal 5, a reliable six minute non-stop journey. With a 100% safety record, the 21 pod service operates 22 hours a day, and has 99.7% availability.
Its pods have now covered over 7 million km, and carried over 3.4 million passengers, with an average waiting time of 8 seconds; 80% of users have no waiting at all.
The PRT service has reduced congestion locally, saving Heathrow 70,000 shuttle bus journeys annually, which represents a yearly saving of 200 tonnes of CO₂.
